Incheon Airport Arrival Guide: First 60 Minutes in Korea

Updated: October 14, 2026

Quick answer

First time in Korea? Start with your hotel, not a transport-card comparison.

Once you’ve cleared immigration, collected your bags, and passed through customs:

  1. Get online.
  2. Save your hotel’s name and Korean address.
  3. Check the route and the next available departure.
  4. Get the ticket, transport card, or cash your journey needs.
  5. Head to your accommodation.

Arriving late? Check the last train or bus before stopping to shop or compare SIM plans.

This guide focuses on getting from Incheon Airport to accommodation in Seoul. “First 60 minutes” means getting your essentials sorted after entering the public arrivals hall. Immigration, baggage collection, and the journey to your hotel can take longer.

1. Get through arrivals first

Follow the signs for arrivals and immigration, collect your luggage, and pass through customs. Follow any instructions that apply to your arrival.

Once you reach the public arrivals hall, take a moment to check which terminal you’re in: Terminal 1 or Terminal 2. You’ll need the correct terminal when looking up transport and pickup points.

You don’t need to plan the rest of your trip here.

Olive Young can wait.

2. Get your phone online

Start by connecting to the airport’s free Wi-Fi if you don’t already have working mobile data.

Use it to open your booking confirmation, find your accommodation, and check your onward journey.

If you bought an eSIM before flying, follow your provider’s activation instructions. Installation and activation aren’t always the same step, so check when your plan starts and which settings it requires.

If you need a physical SIM or help with a mobile plan, look for an airport telecom counter. Check that your phone supports the service before purchasing, and confirm the counter’s location and hours if you’re arriving late.

International roaming is another option. Check your home provider’s charges before using it.

Working mobile data is useful once you leave the airport. If you’re relying on Wi-Fi for now, save screenshots of your hotel address, route, booking details, and any instructions you’ll need along the way.

3. Save your hotel address

Before buying a transport ticket, save:

  • Your hotel or accommodation name
  • Its Korean address
  • Its phone number
  • Check-in instructions, including any late-arrival arrangements

Open the location in a navigation app such as Naver Map and check that it matches your booking. Hotels with similar names can be in different neighborhoods.

Need help finding your hotel or reading the route? Follow our step-by-step guide to using Naver Map in English.

Keep a screenshot of the Korean address. It’s useful when asking for directions or showing a taxi driver where you need to go.

If you’re staying in an apartment or guesthouse, check the entrance instructions too. Reaching the right building doesn’t always mean you’ve found the right door.

4. Choose your route before buying a card

Look at the whole journey to your accommodation, including transfers and the walk from the final stop.

For most visitors heading to Seoul, the main options to compare are AREX, an airport bus, and a taxi.

AREX

AREX is worth checking when your destination is convenient to the railway or a straightforward onward connection.

The Express and All-Stop services are different:

  • Express: A service connecting the airport terminals and Seoul Station, with a dedicated Express ticket.
  • All-Stop: A service calling at intermediate stations, which may put you closer to your destination.

Check which service your route uses before buying a ticket or heading through the gates.

Rail avoids road traffic, but remember to include the transfer and walking time after you leave the train.

Airport bus

Check airport buses if there’s a stop near your accommodation, especially when a train journey would involve several transfers with luggage.

Before buying a ticket, confirm:

  • The route number
  • Your destination stop
  • The boarding point for your terminal
  • The departure time
  • The walk from the stop to your accommodation

A nearby bus stop can make the arrival easier, but road traffic can affect the journey time.

Taxi

A taxi may be worth the extra cost when you have children, several bags, a difficult final connection, or a late arrival.

If you’re traveling with others, check that the vehicle can accommodate both your group and your luggage. A group of four with large suitcases may need a larger vehicle.

Use the designated taxi area or the pickup instructions from your booking service. Confirm the destination and how the fare is calculated, including any applicable tolls or surcharges.

There’s no single best option for every hotel.

5. Get the ticket or transport card you actually need

You don’t have to buy a reusable transport card before leaving the airport.

For AREX All-Stop, you can use an accepted transport card or purchase a single-journey ticket. AREX Express uses its own ticket. For an airport bus, check the ticket and payment arrangements for your service.

If you’re taking a taxi directly to your hotel, you can sort out your everyday public-transport card later.

You’ll see several card names while researching Korea:

  • T-money: A prepaid transport card commonly used for public transportation.
  • WOWPASS: A visitor-focused payment card with a transport function. Check the separate payment and transport balances before using it.
  • Climate Card: A transport pass with a defined coverage area and validity period.

The Climate Card cannot be used to board at Incheon Airport Terminal 1 or Terminal 2 stations. Don’t buy it expecting to use it for your arrival train journey into Seoul.

For help choosing a card for the rest of your stay, see the Korea transportation cards guide.

What about cash?

Check the payment method for the ticket or card you’re buying. Having some Korean won available can help if your chosen machine, top-up method, or purchase requires cash.

Airport bank, ATM, and currency-exchange facilities are available, but locations and operating hours vary.

There’s no need to exchange your entire travel budget just to get out of the airport. Start with what your arrival journey and immediate expenses require, and check fees before confirming a withdrawal or exchange.

6. Check the boarding point and go

Before leaving the arrivals hall, make sure you have:

  • The correct terminal and boarding location
  • Your ticket or payment method
  • Your destination stop
  • Your hotel address saved offline
  • Any check-in instructions you’ll need on arrival

If it’s late, check whether your accommodation needs advance notice of your arrival time.

Then head to your train, bus, or taxi. You can decide what to do tomorrow after you’ve put the suitcase down.

Song’s Local Note

If I were helping a friend with this journey, I’d look at the final stretch to their accommodation before recommending a transport option.

A fast train ride can still leave you with a transfer and a long walk. An airport bus can be convenient if the stop is close, but much less appealing if you have to walk uphill with luggage.

Check that last part of the route. It’s easy to overlook when you’re comparing only the airport journey.

Quick FAQ

Can I use Wi-Fi before buying a SIM?

Yes. Incheon Airport provides free Wi-Fi. You can use it to find your accommodation and check your route before deciding whether you need a SIM or another mobile-data option.

Save essential information before leaving if you won’t have mobile data.

Can I get a SIM at the airport?

There are telecom counters at the airport. Available products, opening hours, and locations vary, so check the relevant provider’s information for your terminal and arrival time.

Do I need T-money immediately?

No. It depends on your journey. AREX All-Stop has a single-journey ticket option, while Express uses a separate ticket. If you’re taking a taxi, a public-transport card can wait.

Is AREX always the easiest way to Seoul?

No. It depends on where you’re staying and what happens after the train ride. Compare transfers and the walk to your accommodation with the airport-bus and taxi alternatives.

What if I arrive after the last train?

Check the airport’s current late-night bus information and taxi options. Use the time you expect to reach the public arrivals hall, rather than your flight’s landing time, when planning.

Will I reach my hotel within 60 minutes of landing?

Don’t plan on that. Immigration, baggage collection, customs, waiting time, and the journey itself all affect your arrival. This guide is a checklist for getting ready to leave the airport, not a guaranteed journey time.
